Restore factory defaults on Humminbird

One more question and i will leave you alone. I want to upgrade the firmware on the Humminbird 997 and I have never done it before. Can I go straight to the latest skipping several updates or do I have to load each? When I restore factory defaults will I loose all my waypoints? This is the fear that has kept me from upgrading.

Good news and better news. You can skip straight to the latest firmware update. Humminbird includes all updates in the latest upgrades. No, it will not delete your waypoints. But I seriously recommended you Export All Nav Data to a SD card before performing any updates! This will save all your waypoints and data to the SD card and if something goes wrong you will have a back up. I back up my waypoints about once a month just to be safe and store them at home. Even if I sink my boat or someone steals my unit I have my waypoints.. I can not stress enough the importance of backing up these files. Do it or someday you will be sick about your losses.

Pomoxis is a genus of freshwater fish in the sunfish family (family Centrarchidae) of order Perciformes. The type species is P. annularis, the white crappiei. The common name crappie (pronounced /ˈkræpiː/), refers to either of the Pomoxis species, both of which are extremely popular game fish.
